Majority Leader Van Bramer Celebrates Installation of Traffic Signal At Dangerous Intersection

On Friday, September 8th, I joined Pre-K students, parents, and staff from the Little Friends Pre-K Center and the NYC Department of Transportation to celebrate the installation of traffic and pedestrian signals at the intersection of 43rd Ave and 47th Street in Sunnyside. With only a one-way stop, vehicles sped down 43rd Ave at dangerous speeds, endangering commuters walking to and from the busy 46th Street 7 train station a block away and students and parents traveling to and from the 56-seat Little Friends Pre-K Center.

The installation of pedestrian and traffic signals at this dangerous intersection is a huge relief for the people of Sunnyside. After constituents voiced concerns to me of speeding cars and with a Pre-K center and major 7 train station just a block away, I met with the Department of Transportation and highlighted this intersection for the installation of traffic and pedestrian signals. I thank the Department of Transportation for hearing our concerns and taking action to make our community safer, and I look forward to highlighting and making additional safety projects in Western Queens a reality.

The installation of the traffic and pedestrian signals comes after Majority Leader Van Bramer highlighted the intersection to the Department of Transportation on behalf of concerned constituents after the intersection saw 16 injuries in six years. The traffic and pedestrian signals will be fully operational by next week after safety tests are complete.
