Majority Leader Van Bramer Cuts Ribbon on Upgrades at Riis Center in Queensbridge

On February 16, 2017, Majority Leader Van Bramer, alongside seniors, students, and NYCHA residents, cut the ribbon on upgrades to the Jacob Riis Neighborhood Settlement in Queensbridge. Majority Leader Van Bramer fought for the allocation of $770,000 for these renovations, which include the installation of air conditioning and upgrades to the bathrooms.

“The Jacob Riis Neighborhood Settlement is the hub of this community and the people of Queensbridge deserve an up-to-date and functional community center,” said Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer. “I am committed to making public housing facilities more modern and comfortable– that’s why I allocated these funds, and I’m glad that the work is finally complete.”

“Thanks to the tireless support and partnership of Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer, the residents of Queensbridge have a Community Center they can be truly proud of: one that offers comfort, accessibility, and functionality. On behalf of the board, staff, and most importantly, the participants of Riis Settlement, I offer my sincere thanks to the Council Member for making these capital improvements possible,” said Chris Hanway, Executive Director of the Riis Settlement.
