On January 7th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer attended the farewell mass and party for Monsignor Denis Herron at St. Teresa’s Auditorium in Woodside. The Monsignor, has been a strong community leader for 12 years at the parish, and is going on sabbatical to Rome, Italy, before taking on another assignment.

For nearly 15 years, the LaGuardia led program has helped tens of thousands gain citizenship. Council Member Van Bramer has been a constant supporter of LaGuardia Community College and recently celebrated the $4.25 million funding which he was able to secure for the construction of two elevators and the overhaul of four elevators in the College’s C-Building.
On Jan 6th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer attended El Museo Del Barrio’s 35 Annual Three Kings Day Parade in East Harlem. The time honored procession took place between 106th Street and Madison Avenue and featured camels, music, puppets and dancing. Pictured is Van Bramer with one of the parade’s Grand Marshals.
On January 5th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer addressed Community Board 2 at the first meeting of 2012 where he gave a report on substantial community improvements, which have been accomplished over the past year. He also spoke about his push to deter the establishment of a new gentleman’s club in Long Island City and the upcoming renovations of Thomas P. Noonan Park.
On January 5th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Brooklyn Museum Director Arnold Lehman for the museum’s exhibition, “Hide / Seek,” which addressed the role of the LGBT community and its voice, commonly hidden in the art world.
On January 5th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, Chair of the Cultural Affairs and Libraries Committee, toured the new visitor center at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden with president and CEO, Scot Medbury. The welcoming eco-friendly facility – due to be completed in the Spring , will feature two rain gardens and add more street trees to the institution’s ongoing efforts expand its programs and services.
On December 29th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined officials from the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) to announce the placement of 24 new trash baskets and additional street sweeping in Sunnyside, Woodside, and Long Island City. The baskets and additional cleaning arrive after Council Member Van Bramer fought for the DSNY to increase collections throughout District 26.

On Thursday, December 29th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, Chair of the Cultural Affairs Committee, toured the Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden in commemoration of its 20th anniversary. The show includes some of the most well-known and cherished landmarks in New York City, painstakingly crafted from all natural plant materials which take up to 1000 hours to create.
