Council Member Van Bramer launches local anti-graffiti campaign and to kick off the initiative he led a graffiti removal demonstration in Woodside, Queens.
Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce and CitySolve joined forces with local community organizations to battle graffiti throughout the community by launching a local Anti-Graffiti Campaign for Sunnyside, Woodside, Long Island City, Hunters Point, Dutch Kills, Blissville, Astoria and Maspeth in District 26. The three phase anti-graffiti campaign will equip local residents with a hotline and email address to report graffiti vandalism in the area. On Wednesday, August 4th Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, Queens Library CEO Thomas Galante and community leaders joined children and teens at their summer reading programs in the Sunnyside Community Library. Together, they saw first hand the wonderful programming made possible by the historic $61M budget restoration for Libraries, which has saved hundreds of jobs and dozens of libraries from closing citywide. On Saturday, July 31st Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Ravenswood Houses residents for their Annual Health Fair & Family Day. Friends and neighbors gathered together to enjoy a fun filled day of games and food and hands-on health tips complete with free on-site blood pressure testing. On Thursday, July 29th during the New York City Council’s monthly Stated Meeting, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, Speaker Christine Quinn and Council Member Julissa Ferreras presented the cast, crew and creative team of Broadway’s FELA! with a Proclamation to honor an extraordinary production for their positive contributions to New York City and the American theatre.
“Hats off to the cast, crew and creative team of Broadway’s FELA! for their inspirational portrayal of legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti,” said Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer. “Kuti’s story inspired a nation and his music inspired the world – it is honor to recognize such an extraordinary production for their positive contributions to New York City and the American theatre.”
